The Kettleheads “Kettle Town” EP REVIEW.

Updated: Sep 20, 2022

A Wonderful EP from Melbourne/Naarm 4 piece.

Dreamy guitar riffs and scene setting vocals carry a dreamy, 'beach trip' feeling straight to you.

Personally I was taken instantly to a fond memory in my mind. A hot summer afternoon drive down the great ocean road. windows down, board shorts sticking to my legs and hair drying from the warm wind. Reminiscent of other local artists such as The Grogans and Majak Door, The Kettleheads highlight some of the sounds that make Melbourne/Naarm such a melting pot of talent and intrigue. However the influence of this EP extends beyond our borders as aspects of the Dreamy Layered American indie sound (Mac Demarco, Foxygen, Kurt Vile) is blended seamlessly throughout the tracklist. The sonic textures and feeling in this EP would fit perfectly in a playlist within the realms of such notable artists and prove to be a worthy addition of this every growing sub genre.

The songs build up steadily through well thought out compositions. with rolling bass, tasty guitar licks and dreamy layered vocals (which I am a sucker for) , songs on “the kettle” really take on a feeling of their own throughout each track. Songs like “all my love” and “call out my name”  keep your head bopping non stop, and feel like the sort of songs you want to learn every lyric of, so that when you’re at a show you can sing along loud and proud.

Throughout "The Kettle" themes of internal conflict and different perspectives are perfectly paired with a really laid back vibe in terms of sound. This body of work offers the listener a chance to take a wide and relaxed approach of enjoyment, with stripped back acoustic based songs and an instrumental track “open eyes” allowing space to transport the listener to a memory or dream as they enjoy the feeling of the music and delve into minds wandering thoughts in the way only a chilled out song can.

“The kettle” stands out to us in a way that broods excitement for new things from the Kettleheads, as we are always excited by what a band has up their sleeves.
