The city of Melbourne/Naarm is no stranger to hard hitting genre bending rock, enter any venue on any given night and you are sure to find yourself engulfed in a room filled with energetic riffs and a sweaty crowd. Mona Bay’s new single Circus Dogs proves to be an incredible addition to the wave of artists offering up an incredibly high paced and spirited style of rock. A big strength of the band in the past has been their ability to transition seamlessly between Indie-Rock, Grunge and Psych. With this new single it highlights their talents in delivering a harder rock cut that is headlined by an infectious riff. The bouncy guitar line is the driving force of the song that is bound to get stuck in your head from the second it hits your ears. Once it hits, it doesn’t stop.
The vocals blend perfectly and act as an aid to the guitar line instead of overpowering it. Similar to the way bands such as Psychedelic Porn Crumpets utilise vocals to add an atmospheric layer to their powerful instrumentation. Circus Dogs proves to be a welcome addition to Mona Bays growing discography and carves out an even bigger intrigue to catch them live. This track was made to be seen live.
