After a hugely successful inaugural event in 2022, Hella Queen is back in 2023 with their second edition of this FREE fantastic event on Monday the 6th of November at the iconic Section 8. Partnered up with Absolut Vodka, Heaps Normal and Headline Acts, the Hella Queen event features an exclusively LGBTQIA+ line up, celebrating queer artistry in all forms. The day will feature burlesque, drag, a voguing competition featuring Kiki Cats, some of the Melbourne ballroom community’s most iconic performers and of course a selection of amazing live music.

Those who attend can not only expect a day of vibrant music ranging from House, Disco, World, Garage, Hip – Hop and more, they can also be enticed by the fabulous visuals. Section 8 will be surrounded by a super colourful and bright aesthetic, from both the incredible outfits we expect to see, but also from Lava Brain supplying breathtaking visuals. Hella Queen will feel like walking through a gorgeous queer wonderland!
The day of celebration will also feature a raffle, with proceeds going toward The Victorian Pride Centre and Black Rainbow. Both organisations help cultivate safe spaces for the LGBTQIA+ community, as well as providing education to the broader community on LGBTQIA+ issues and initiatives. they both also provide so much guidance and assistance to the queer community. The prizes of this raffle are generous donations from Impala Skates and Szade Sunglasses. Make sure you get down and enter the raffle, you can win some fantastic prizes as well as supporting two incredibly important initiatives.
Section 8 has always been one of Couchdog's favorite venues. Their eclectic taste of not only the music they play but of the diverse crowds they attract make it a true melting pot of individuals from varying backgrounds, but one thing in common. An appreciation of creativity and art.
Events such as Hella Queen are a necessary part of any successful artistic community, as it gives both the artists and attendees a safe space to feel empowered in their identity. Be sure to go down to Section 8 this Monday have a dance and be part of the good vibes!
